A kidnapping case took a bizarre twist this week when a man in jail for allegedly abducting one girl began telling reporters he was also responsible for the disappearance of Xiana Fairchild, a 7-year old missing for more than a year.
Curtis Dean Anderson says Fairchild is alive and also told the little girl's great-aunt, Stephanie Kahalekulu, that he knows of her whereabouts.
"Obviously, I'm very disturbed that he continues to go against his attorney's written and verbal directives not to make any statements," said Carl Spieckerman, Anderson's lawyer.
On Friday, Kahalekulu confirmed reports that Anderson "confessed" to abducting Fairchild.
Anderson is currently in jail on charges that he kidnapped an 8-year-old girl last August. She managed to escape when Anderson allegedly left her in his car unattended.
Kahalekulu has visited Anderson several times in jail to gain information about the girl's disappearance. She said during one of their conversations, he attempted to extort money from her by holding up a note that read: "Xiana home alive. $75 a week."
"I have to believe him," Kahalekulu said. "I can't not believe him. I have to believe she's with these mysterious people."
Solano County District Attorney Dave Paulson said his office would look into Anderson's claims and said police had been contacted about the statements.<
