On Thanksgiving evening, the Daly City Police Department and the California Highway Patrol were involved in a shooting on the embankment of the I-280 that resulted in the death of a lone suspect. The man's identify has not yet been revealed by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office.
All officer-involved shootings are routinely investigated internally and externally, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Paul McCarthy.
The incident began at 10:39 p.m. according to a press release by the Daly City Police Department.
California Highway Patrol officers observed a man standing alone in the center of the divider of I-280 just opposite the Southbound Westlake offramp. The officers attempted to contact the individual. But instead of responding to the officers, the suspect reportedly ran across the lanes of traffic and hid himself near a wooded embankment.
At this point the officers noticed the man was carrying a gun.
