A young sea lion was picked up by Sausalito police early Thursday morning after it wandered onto a city street, Marine Mammal Center spokesman Jim Oswald said.

The animal, named "Scotty J” by the center, was spotted at about 3 a.m. on Bridgeway, where it was picked up by police and handed over to Marine Mammal Center staff, Oswald said.

Scotty J is about a year old and weighs 42 pounds. Unlike many of the other sea lions rescued and treated at the center, the animal does not appear to be malnourished, Oswald said.

However, Scotty J has been acting somewhat sluggish, which Oswald said could be indicative of a neurological condition.
