Two people were taken into custody after an 86-year-old woman was victimized in a jewelry switch, police said Saturday.
The victim was walking in the 1000 block of El Camino Real about 12:10 p.m. Thursday when an SUV pulled over and a woman in the front passenger seat called out, police said in a press release.
As the woman from the SUV gave the victim a hug, she swapped the victim’s real jewelry with fake jewelry and then drove off, police said.
On Friday, automated license plate surveillance cameras alerted police that the SUV was back in the city.
Officers stopped the SUV and detained a couple identified as Florin Calin, 31, and Iza Calin, 27, both of Norwalk. Both were accused of grand theft, elder abuse, and conspiracy.
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the South San Francisco Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau at (650) 877-8900.
