Getting your fix of Honey Nut O’s or turkey meatballs could get a little easier if Trader Joe’s makes good on what appears to be plans to move into a large vacant space at Hillsdale Shopping Center.
Trader Joe’s has posted a liquor license in front of the former Tower Record, Good Guys and CompUSA building on Hillsdale Boulevard. Plastic is covering windows and it’s unclear what kind of construction could be happening inside. Meanwhile, there’s no word from either Hillsdale Shopping Center or the Trader Joe’s Corporate Office on the opening of the new store.
"I have nothing to confirm at this time,” said Trader Joe’s spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki.
Calls to Hillsdale Shopping Center were not returned.

The massive building that could hold the new store once housed a Tower Records store and a Good Guys store at the same time. It is unclear, if Trader Joe’s does move in, if it will occupy the entire building or half of it. Most Trader Joe’s Stores are 10,000 to 15,000 square feet.
The new location is less than two miles from the existing Trader Joe’s location at Concar Drive and Grant Street. That store opened more than 10 years ago in an aging strip mall that hosts T.J. Maxx, Rite Aid, Ross Dress For Less and recently lost Circuit City, which went out of business.
Mochizuki said that store will remain open. There are currently Trader Joe’s stores in South San Francisco, Millbrae and San Carlos. Aside from San Francisco, San Mateo would be the only Peninsula city to have multiple Trader Joe’s stores.
