Foster City police announced yesterday that a shooting last month is being investigated as an accidental discharge of a firearm.
"We are no longer considering this to be a criminal manner," said Foster City police Capt. Craig Courtin.
Based on lab results of evidence found at the scene of the May 10 shooting, police were able to rule out assault, Courtin said.
The type of evidence found at the scene is being withheld because it's an ongoing investigation, Courtin added.
The shooting happened at around 6:50 p.m. at the Charter Square Shopping Center. While police found blood, there was no sign of a victim.
A short time later, police got a call from the San Mateo Police Department saying a 23-year-old man had been hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his foot.
