Save the Bay launched a new online resource geared toward students interested in the San Francisco Bay yesterday.
The new Web site, called The Bay Classroom, offers educational information and also provides teachers with online access to Save The Bay's Watershed curriculum.
The online classroom was launched as a resource for students involved in the Watershed curriculum. The Watershed curriculum is designed to help Bay Area science educators easily incorporate experimental, Bay-specific activities into their lessons. The curriculum meets the standards for the California Science Framework and State Science Standards for middle and high school level students.
The site offers features like Bay history, Bay basics and Bay issues and solutions.
It has special sections like Creature Feature which profiles different species within the Bay, starting with salmon. Bay-related activities and projects are also explained, like "Wetlands in a pan," a how-to assignment for students. The assignment explains how to set up a mini wetlands, then see what happens to the area under different weather conditions.
