The Chicken’s Ball is rooted in both San Carlos and San Francisco history. The San Francisco original began in late 1800s San Francisco’s Barbary Coast saloons. Local vaudeville performers, seeking to soften their bawdy reputation, staged special extra performances in glittery costumes of feathers and sequins to raise money for local charities. Those feathery costumes inspired the name “Chicken’s Ball.”

Millbrae City Council pledged a willingness to reconsider the city’s vacant vice mayor position at an upcoming meeting.
The issue has been a source of contention since late last year, when councilmembers bypassed protocol and prevented Councilwoman Ann Schneider from moving into the position aligning her to become the next mayor.
Residents have regularly spoke out during public comment advocating for councilmembers to reassess their decision, claiming officials are betraying the public trust by refusing to name a vice mayor. According to protocol, Schneider is in line to fill the seat, as she was the second highest vote getter in the previous election.
