In response to a man who was recently videoed crossing the train tracks and narrowly missed being hit by an oncoming train in Redwood City, Caltrain will host a virtual townhall to discuss safety initiatives, behaviors near tracks and answer questions. “Life on the Line — Reddit Ask Me Anything with Caltrain” discussion will be held 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 1. The link to the discussion won’t be live until the day of the virtual townhall, but participants can sign up for notifications through Caltrain’s facebook page at www.facebook.com/caltrain.

Rory Walsh, interim director of San Mateo’s Community Development Department, will be stepping down next week. Assistant City Manager Matt Bronson will serve as interim director until the city hires a permanent one. The City Council will begin to interview candidates in the coming weeks.

More than 200 area volunteers and residents of the North Fair Oaks community are joining forces Friday, March 21, to give area kids the childhood they deserve by building a new playground at Friendship Park. The design is based on children’s drawings created at a special design event in January.
The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 2:30 p.m. at Friendship Park, 2914 Huntington Ave. in Redwood City.

With San Francisco’s “Batkid” in mind, San Bruno’s own Batman, Harry Potter and the villain, Bruno the Bandit, will be coming to town March 22.

Come out and cheer on the superheroes as they battle the notorious Bandit who is plotting a series of diabolical mischief in San Bruno. Events will take place at the Senior Center, 1555 Crystal Springs Road, at 10:15 a.m., Capuchino High School’s baseball field, 1501 Magnolioa Avenue at 10:30 a.m., Tanforan Mall Police Plaza (outside of the food courts near BART) at 11 a.m. and at San Bruno City Park at 11:45 a.m. where there will be a barbeque to honor the superheroes, cancer survivors and caregivers.

CASA of San Mateo County was awarded $45,000 from The 100 Women Charitable Foundation to further its goal of pairing more foster children on its waitlist with a caring, community volunteer. By providing mentoring and advocacy, CASA volunteers make certain these abused and neglected children are not forgotten in an overburdened child welfare system that is difficult to navigate.

The Burlingame Recreation Center’s creative corner class has organized a charity sale. The students and instructors’ artwork are on display in the Lobby Gallery of the Burlingame Recreation Department at 850 Burlingame Ave. Rachel’s creative corner class, which has students ranging in age from 5-15 years old, will be contributing the money earned from the sale to the UNICEF charity. The community is invited to stop by the recreation center and see the classes’ art work is on display for the month of March.
