Millbrae police have arrested a homeless man from San Francisco for furnishing a variety of alcohol and drugs to minors, including marijuana he allegedly purchased from San Francisco's cannabis club.
Officers arrested Shawn Henry Simon on Monday morning in Rotary Park on South Ashton Avenue, only blocks away from Mills High School, Capt. Mike Grogan said.
Simon, 23, was identified to police by a group of students at the high school - all 14 or 15 years old - who claimed he had been supplying them with alcohol, prescription drugs and marijuana for the last six weeks, Grogan said.
He said further investigation revealed that Simon, who lived in San Francisco, obtained state disability insurance for a hip injury, allowing him to become a member of the city's Cannabis Club. The club distributes marijuana for self-use to those with a documented medical condition.
At the time of his arrest, Grogan said, Simon had a membership card from the county of San Francisco clearing him to purchase marijuana.
"It's disturbing that he has a privilege to obtain marijuana for medical purposes," Grogan said. "He abused that privilege. It doesn't help him mentally or physically to sell it or give it away to high school students."
Simon, who was booked into the San Mateo County Jail, could face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and drug trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school, Grogan said.
