A proposal to subdivide a 60-acre parcel in unincorporated San Mateo Highlands to create four new parcels for single-family homes may transform the look of a stretch of Parrott Drive.

Though much of the parcel is undeveloped, the four new lots are proposed for an eastern edge of the parcel along Parrott Drive adjacent to single-family homes. Also adjacent to Hillsborough and bounded by Crystal Springs Road, Polhemus Road and Parrott Drive, the hillside site currently contains an existing single-family house, around which a 9.27-acre parcel will be formed, according to a San Mateo County staff report.

Landslide prone land? Its clear the land is not suited for development. Taxpayers will be left with the problem and costs sooner or later.

We need to stop paving over our open space far from transit and focus on redeveloping underutilized lots next to transit. Save the last remaining beauty we have in San Mateo County and get rid of the sprawling car dealerships next to Caltrain stations.
