Mary E. Peters passed away April 1 at the age of 79. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she began teaching at San Mateo High School in 1943 and retired after 37 years. She taught three generations of high school math students and was a role model for young women who are sometimes subtly dissuaded from pursuing a career in math. She loved to travel and was especially proud of her Swedish heritage.
A memorial gathering will take place in the library at the San Mateo High School on Friday, April 20 at 4 p.m. Inurnment was private at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma.
Contributions to the McConville Scholarship, c/o Barbara Snider, San Mateo High School, 506 North Delaware, San Mateo 94401 or the Peninsula Humane Society, 12 Airport Blvd., San Mateo 944001 are preferred.
Arrangements are under the direction of O'Connell's Chapel, San Mateo.<
