New clearance bars will be installed on 25th Avenue at South Delaware Street and Palm Avenue in preparation for the intersection’s new height restrictions as part of the grade separation project, according to city officials.
On Monday, July 8, motorists should expect to the see the new bars and Caltrain will install a new rail bridge overnight on July 19-20. The $180 million grade separation project will enhance east-west connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians by creating new grade-separated crossings at 25th Avenue, 28th Avenue and 31st Avenue. The roads currently dead-end at El Camino Real and don’t intersect the tracks. It is expected to be completed by January 2021.
For about a year, there will be a temporary height restriction of 13 feet, 10 inches, at this intersection until the road is lowered as one of the final steps of the grade separation project. Go to cityofsanmateo.org/3198/Caltrain25th-Avenue-Grade-Separation-Pro for more information.
