University of California, San Francisco Health is officially opening its fifth outpatient facility and third cancer center on the Peninsula on Monday, spokesperson Chad Burns said.
The facility, which has been seeing patients for part of the last week, is complete with cancer clinical care, radiology and lab services and an 18-chair infusion center, according to a press release from UCSF Health. It is located at 225 California Drive.
It will also feature a surgery center to open later in the year, which will offer a variety of surgery care for cancer, breast surgery, urology and orthopedics, among others, Burns said.
The new facility is intended to make treatment more convenient for individuals who might live on the Peninsula but go to UCSF to see specialists, Burns said.
“I think it’s primarily the convenience of getting care close to home for patients who live or work in Burlingame or on the Peninsula,” he said. “If they have a doctor on the Peninsula, they can stay and get care on the Peninsula, [or] they can choose a specialist who practices in San Francisco and get infusion labs, imaging done in Burlingame.”
The new facility will offer wide-ranging cancer care, including “multidisciplinary care” for breast and urologic cancers, the press release said. Other UCSF Peninsula locations are located in Redwood City, San Mateo and Redwood Shores.
“I think the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive that this new location is opening,” Burns said.
Note to readers: This story has been updated to specify that the surgeries offered include a variety of specialities. A previous version of this story said the primary surgery offerings would be focused on cancer.
