The Redwood City woman found guilty of serving her husband a poison milkshake and fleeing to Mexico with their infant child was sentenced to life in prison plus six years yesterday morning.
Elizabeth Fuentes-Ortiz, 32, was found guilty of premeditated attempted murder with special circumstances of torture Feb. 4 after a 15-day jury trial and two days of deliberations.
The charge carries a mandatory life sentence with the possibility of parole after seven years. Fuentes-Ortiz was also found guilty of causing great bodily injury and parental abduction, for which she received a three-year sentence each.
Judge Dale A. Hahn decided that those two terms will be served consecutively.
The end of Fuentes-Ortiz' case comes just over 10 years after the initial crime. She brought her husband, Gilbert, a milkshake laced with the insecticide Ortho-7 to his Toys R Us workplace. She told him it was a protein shake intended to help him build muscle mass.
