A 34-year-old unhoused man has been arrested on suspicion of killing another unhoused man who was found in a downtown Palo Alto parking garage last week, police said Friday.
At about 12:15 p.m. on July 25, officers responded to a report of a person down on the first floor of the Bryant/Lytton Garage and determined that the man, later identified as 60-year-old James Allen Rudolph, had died.
Investigators determined that Rudolph died of blunt force trauma to his head and over the next few days identified 34-year-old Alvaro Javier Lopez as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to Palo Alto police.
Lopez was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday in another parking garage in Palo Alto. Police have not released any details about what led to the killing or a possible motive in the case.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the police 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413. Anonymous tips can be sent by email to paloalto@tipnow.org or by text message or voicemail to (650) 383-8984.
