After a car chase resulted in the arrest of two men suspected of a commercial burglary in Princeton Saturday, one of the suspects, Joseph Goulart, has been connected with and pleaded not guilty Wednesday to seven other commercial burglaries, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Six of the seven burglaries, which took place in Half Moon Bay, El Granada and Millbrae between June and January, involved the smashing of front windows or doors of small businesses, including a Round Table Pizza in Millbrae and the Twice as Nice discount store in Half Moon Bay, according to prosecutors.
On Saturday, San Jose residents Goulart, 31, and Mario Darosa, 36, were observed attempting to steal an ATM from a Princeton mall but fled in a gray pickup truck before sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene early Saturday morning. Their truck was seen shortly after in Half Moon Bay, and a failed enforcement stop led to a chase on Interstate 280, which ended when the truck crashed in San Jose.
Darosa is currently out of custody after his bail was posted. Goulart is in custody and his bail is set at $200,000. A judge approved a motion from the prosecutors to require the court to examine the source of any bail posted on his behalf. He will next appear in court March 15 for a review hearing with the Superior Court, and his preliminary hearing date has been set for March 21.
