A San Mateo man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly attempting to steal about $500 of clothing and cologne from the Macy’s at the Hillsdale Shopping Center, according to police.
At about 8:49 p.m., police were called to the retail store on a report of loss prevention officers fighting and chasing a man, identified as Fernando Escotorivera, 27, who was detained.
Escotorivera allegedly fought with loss prevention employees after being confronted and headbutted an employee, who sustained only minor injury and later declined medical attention. Escotorivera was then detained and escorted back to Macy’s Loss Prevention Office, according to police.
A combination of store surveillance footage, statements, and recovered merchandise led to the probable cause arrest of Escotorivera for robbery. Escotorivera was transported to the San Mateo County Jail where he was booked for his charge, according to police.
