Two men are in jail following a robbery that took place Thursday afternoon on the 1400 block of Old Bayshore Road in Burlingame after a license plate reader allowed investigators to track the vehicle to San Francisco, according to police.
At about 4:33 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, police were called to the site after a victim said two men approached him in a parking lot with a simulated firearm concealed in a hoodie pocket. The suspects took the victim’s backpack and suitcase before fleeing northbound on Old Bayshore Boulevard in a black sedan, according to police.
San Francisco police located the vehicle, which subsequently entered the highway. California Highway Patrol officers pursued the vehicle westbound on Interstate 580 into Richmond, where they detained the occupants, identified as Angel Alegrerangel and Gerardo Valenciadiaz, both 19-year-old residents of Richmond. Burlingame Police Department officers responded to Richmond to assume the investigation. The victim’s property was recovered in the vehicle, and both suspects were placed under arrest for robbery and conspiracy. Alegrerangel and Valenciadiaz were booked into the San Mateo County Jail, according to police.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Burlingame Police Department at (650) 777-4100.
