Before the Internet hide-and-seek game RealityRun hits the streets of San Francisco on Monday, two important questions need to be asked:
Who are these people? And don't they have day jobs?
Evidently they don't, which is why two contestants will hit the hilly environs of the city and attempt to evade "hunters" for seven days in an online cloak-and-dagger test of smarts. If the "fugitives" can lay low for seven days and complete a series of assignments, they'll collect $10,000.
The game was concocted by German lawyer and part-time triathlete Alexander Skora. It's part "Survivor," part hide-and-go-seek.
The "fugitives" will be tracked 24 hours a day by microphones and video cameras. Six RealityHunters will try to nab them in between missions with the aid of countless online tipsters taking part over the Internet. Ambient sounds recorded on microphones worn by the contestants give away their locations and provide the "hunters" with clues to their whereabouts.
San Francisco residents were not allowed to participate as "Fugitives" for the Bay Area edition of the game for fear that their homegrown street knowledge would give them an unfair advantage.
The first RealityRun took place on the streets of Berlin and the lone "fugitive" was nabbed eight days into the planned 24-day event.
