Marin County non-profit In Defense of Animals said this week that it is giving its “Happy Honk” award to Foster City officials for deciding to use non-lethal means to manage the Canada geese population in the area.

The animal rights group announced the award ahead of this weekend’s goose poop clean-up event Saturday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Leo J Ryan Park hosted by Foster City Councilmember Stacy Jimenez.

Geese +1, Foster City still 0… And really, $86,240 to kill geese? I know plenty of folks who would do it for free plus they may provide a potential free meal for FC residents. On the bright side in a sad sort of way, the soap opera continues. I’m looking forward to hearing many folks show up for the weekend’s goose poop clean-up. Will the city provide safety masks/gear (such as that shown in the photo) and hazardous waste disposal? BTW, can you catch anything from geese? Bird flu? Goose pimples? Can gardeners keep the “stuff” they pick up?

I don't see those silly women from Marin County pick up after these filthy geese. Why doesn't FC round up a large number of these spewing animals and release them on Marin's Civic Center grounds?
