An armed man fleeing from officers was found dead Friday afternoon, East Palo Alto police said.
Officers responded about 3:41 p.m. to a 911 call about a man with a firearm in the 2700 block of Xavier Street. The location is near Costano Elementary School and a daycare center.
When officers attempted to confront the man, he fled on foot. While running, he turned and briefly pointed a handgun at the officers, but didn’t fire and neither did officers, police said.
The man ran into an open field behind Tulane Avenue. Officers lost sight of him and shortly later heard a gunshot, police said.
Menlo Park firefighters were asked to use their drones to help locate the man.
A drone operator found the man hidden behind a large bush. When officers reached him, they found him with a gun in his hand and suffering from a single gunshot wound.
