Hundreds are expected to swarm Washington Park in Burlingame this Saturday for the Community Fit Fest run by Dethrone Basecamp.
The second annual free event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a boot camp run by Dethrone, the fitness studio in Burlingame that’s hosting the day. This year’s theme is “Building Strong Hearts Together.”
“It’s just a day to get out in the park and breath some fresh air,” said Jesse Jones, director of programming at Dethrone. “We can show the community what we’re trying to do. We went out and had 120 people last year. This year, we’re going to make it larger scale and include the entire community.”
The goal is to have 500 to 800 people attend the event and so far there are 330 RSVPs.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an event like this,” he said. “My vision ever since I opened up the studio (in January 2012) was all about community and making Burlingame the fittest city.”
At 10 a.m., there will be muscle and flow yoga with Shauna Harrison of Oakland. Dethrone will host another boot camp in the park at 11 a.m. and finish the day with stretching lessons from fitness expert Philip Levi at 11:45 a.m. There will be modified versions of each of the exercises for children and others.
There will also be a Kids Zone with a 70-foot obstacle course, face painting, potato sack races run by Lululemon Athletica and sumo suits. If you ride your bike to the event, you can get complimentary pressure check and seat adjustment.

“Get a free workout in the park, support each other and help each other get fit,” Jones said.
