The San Mateo Firefighters Association is cooking for a good cause this Saturday as the organization hosts a Chili Cookoff to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
In conjunction with another one of their fundraisers, "Fill the Boot” in September, the mission of the Chili Cook Off is to raise money to help send children dealing with Muscular Dystrophy to camp.

Twelve booths, hosted by fire departments from all over the Bay Area, will feature homemade chili by firefighters from each station. Admission is $10, which includes tastings of all the chili offered, a full bowl of chili of your choice and an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. There will also be live music throughout the day from the bands Explorer and West Bay Rhythm.
"I can’t tell you how thankful our organization is that the San Mateo city firefighters are working so hard to create the Chili Cookoff,” said Leslie Uptain, executive director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. "These guys have been such strong supporters of MDA for many years, and have raised over $28,000 for the MDA since 2006 through their ‘Fill The Boot’ campaign. We are so fortunate to have such strong community support.”
The Chili Cook Off takes place this Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. in downtown San Mateo’s Central Park. For more information on the event call 342-5520 or visit www.dsma.org.
