PALO ALTO — The publishers of the Palo Alto Daily News and its five sister dailies are leaving, citing changes at new owner Knight Ridder.
Dave Price and Jim Pavelich sold their newspapers to Knight Ridder Inc. last February, but stayed during the transition. They also formed a new company with Knight Ridder to start free circulation papers in other cities, including the East Bay Daily News.
But Price and Pavelich said Thursday they have decided to continue with newspaper projects outside the Bay Area because a potential sale of Knight Ridder has put expansion plans on hold. Their final day is Dec. 31.
"We wish Knight Ridder all the best and believe the community will be well served by our successors,” Price said.
They will be succeeded by Shareef Dajani, general manager of the Palo Alto Daily News.
