San Mateo accepting applications for City Services Academy
Register for the spring 2007 session of the Citizens Academy if you are interested in learning firsthand how the city is managed and operated.
The Citizens Academy is a free 12-week class that meets one evening a week from March 7 through May 23. The first class meets Wednesday, March 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and all classes thereafter meet every Wednesday at the same time. To register, call the academy coordinator at 522-7740 or visit the city’s Web site at www.cityofsanmateo.org.
Lions Club 90th anniversary
The Lions Clubs International, which includes 42 individual clubs from San Francisco to Palo Alto, will host a fundraising celebration on March 11 to support Campaign SightFirst II and the Lions Eye Foundation of California-Nevada, Inc.
The celebration dinner will be held at the San Mateo Elks Lodge, located at 229 W. 20th Ave., in San Mateo. Cocktails will be served at 4:30 p.m., and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and include dinner, dessert and coffee.

All net proceeds from the event will go directly to Campaign SightFirst II and Lions Eye Foundation, organizations which help people with eyesight disabilities. For ticket information call Emil Kantola at (650) 355-3526.
Marinated Crab Feed in March
The Marinated Crab Feed is an event sponsored by Millbrae Lions Club to raise money for charitable programs that help children, seniors and disabled in the community.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. March 10 with no-host cocktails, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., all-you-can-eat dinner, 9 p.m. and dancing to midnight.
The event takes place at St. Dunstan’s Hall, 1133 Broadway, Millbrae. Cost is $40 per person. For more information and reservations call 583-2139.
The Millbrae Lions Club meets the first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m., El Rancho Terrace Cafe, 1100 El Camino Real in Millbrae.
