Recently, the Burlingame Lions Club presented its 15th annual Dan Santos Burlingame School Staff Recognition Awards to seven deserving school staff personnel, chosen by their respective school staff’s and selected as the most outstanding individual during this school year.
This years recipients are: Rudy Benton, the physical education specialist at McKinley Elementary School; Patricia Perez Du, a media technology aide at Burlingame Intermediate School; Ruth Ann Poulos, an instructional aide at Lincoln Elementary School; Carol Prater, a music specialist for the district; Geraldine Ghiglieri, the accounts payable person for the district; Sue Ellen Zigliotto, a full inclusion aide at Franklin Elementary School; and Gigi Costa, the communications and technology technician for the district.

Lauren Brown of Los Altos and Chase Richard of Menlo Park, both seniors at Menlo School, were each awarded a National Achievement Scholarship. Both were recognized for their exceptional academic accomplishments and are among the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that make up each region.

The Redwood City Rotary Club awarded $12,000 in college scholarships in May to deserving high school seniors, each receiving $1,500. Students attended different high schools but all live in Redwood City and exhibit the highest ideals, based on scholastic ability, community service, responsibility toward education and financial need. The winners are: Cynthia Gonzalez from Menlo-Atherton; Christina Powell from Sacred Heart Prep.; Lisa Gellerman from Woodside; Holly Withrighton from Carlmont; Pyar Khatri from Carlmont; Lorenzo Razo from Bellarmine; Stephany Conteras from St. Francis; and Joanna Guhit from Notre Dame.

Under the leadership of adviser Mirna Yao at Notre Dame High School in Belmont, JSA, Bowling, Culture, and Rock Climbing clubs held a car wash which raised more than $300.00 to support rain forests, coral reefs and Guatemalan projects. Nicole Martindale, Sonia Brusilo and Christina Jacquemet were student leaders for the effort.
