For people over 50 years old looking to change careers, career coach and life transitions specialist Betty Burr will be offering some guidance at the class, "The best is yet to come!” The course helps people pinpoint jobs they enjoyed and hidden desires they would like to explore.
The program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the College of San Mateo, Building 14 room 120. The program is $59 plus $10 for materials. For more information call 574-6149.

Eighteen local high school seniors will be honored for their leadership in the classroom and community and promoted as role models for their peers during a ceremony at Stanford University on Monday, May 8 by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. The 2006 Youth Award recipients each will receive educational grants in the amounts of $3,000 for the Gold Medallion Awardees and $2,000 for Silver Medallion Awardees for a total of $45,000.
Gold Medallion winners include: Guillermo Antonio Lopez of Daly City for arts and culture, Norma Angelica Jaimez of East Palo Alto for academic excellence, Marina Alanna Gatto of San Carlos for community service, Luis Alberto Torres of East Palo Alto for engineering and mathematics and Giovanni Mata Magana of East Palo Alto for sports.
Silver Medallion winners include: Gabriela Rios of East Palo Alto for academic excellence and Lauren Margaret Camarillo of Menlo Park for education.

A new project to mentor at-risk youth will be established in memory of East Palo Alto police Officer Richard May. Officer May was a youth advocate killed in the line of duty Jan. 7. A 14-year-old Explorer Scout being mentored by May and who was on a ride-along, called in the shooting. Officer May’s father has chosen Friends for Youth, a mentoring organization based in Redwood City, to develop and manage the Rich May Project.

Mills High School will be hosting an Inaugural "Mills Pride Event” on Wednesday, May 10. The event will showcase the accomplishments of Mills students and alumni throughout the local community.
