On Oct. 19, the 41st annual Chocolate Festival will return to Belmont to raise money for charities. The festival, which will take place at the Congregational Church of the Peninsula, will benefit LifeMoves, a nonprofit that helps find housing for unhoused people.
“This year’s focus will be on candies, but we’ll also have Mitchell’s Ice Cream and Champagne,” Micki Carter, the festival’s organizer, said.
The Chocolate Festival has been held since 1983 and has continued in some fashion since then, including online during the pandemic.
The Congregational Church of the Peninsula founded the festival to fundraise for local organizations, such as shelters, while offering a fun experience.
“This is our second year back in person,” Carter said. She expects 800 people to attend the event and urges those planning to attend to buy tickets in advance, as entry is organized into two-hour time slots.

Attendees will have the opportunity for taste testing throughout their time slot.
A jazz trio will perform throughout the festival, which runs from 1-9 p.m., and child care will be provided for the entire event.
A silent auction will be held, with prizes awarded every half hour.
Carter added that when the festival first began, it was not easy to find willing partners.
However, Preston’s, the oldest candy store on the Peninsula, agreed to participate, and the event took off. Preston’s will return for this year’s festival as well. Go to chocolatefestofbelmont.org for more information.
