Plans for a 33-unit apartment building proposed for three lots at the intersection of Whipple Avenue and El Camino Real in Redwood City may change the look of a site formerly occupied by a local liquor store.
If approved, the four-story building at 504 El Camino Real with 16,500 square feet of commercial space and a rooftop deck would take the place of three commercial buildings, one of which formerly housed the Village Bottle Shop, according to plans submitted to the city.
By providing 33 rental units on the city’s northern end, the project would boost the city’s housing stock and make two apartments available at a very low affordable rate. The apartments, primarily one-bedroom units, are slated for the third and fourth floors of the building, above commercial space planned for the first and second floors, according to project plans.
With an entrance and exit onto Whipple Avenue, below-ground and ground-floor parking will provide 88 parking spots and 26 spaces for bicycle parking. In addition to a rooftop deck with seating and planters, building plans show an exterior with aluminum storefronts and green wall panels, according to the plans.
