A stately eucalyptus slated for the chain saw because its roots jut out into the residential Easton Drive was given the name Tom to coincide with a mysterious effort to save him. An open letter to the City Council appeared on the tree in January 2007 urging the City Council to reconsider its decision to remove the eucalyptus.
