Ten men have been charged for a fight that broke out at the Maguire Correctional Facility in September 2025, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Shin-Mee Chang said.
The brawl involved around roughly 30 incarcerated individuals, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said previously, and four sheriff’s deputies received minor injuries and six inmates were transported to hospitals for treatment.
The fight broke out between rival groups, according to the DA’s Office, and deputies deployed tear gas to stop it.
Now, the DA’s Office is in various stages of arraigning the 10 defendants on a grand jury indictment.
The group that allegedly “started the first melee,” which includes Kenneth Arvizu, Jose Amador, Tevita Taunaholo, Marvin Ware and Phillip Nimro Wilson Jr., have been hit with charges ranging from assault on custodial officers, battery and resisting an executive officer, Chang said.
The second group, which includes Joshua Thomas, Jylyn Richardsongreen, Eddie Burns Jr., Mosese Taunaholo and Malaki Luliolaoa, have charges that include assault causing great bodily injury, resisting an executive officer and having a weapon in jail.
