A series of seven wind-driven wildfires burning near Byron along the Alameda-Contra Costa county line burned an estimated 500 acres Wednesday afternoon, according to Cal Fire.
The fires were first reported around 1 p.m., and are burning in the area between Camino Diablo and the county line, according to Battalion Chief Ross Macumber with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
Winds in the area are estimated at 20 mph to 30 mph, Macumber said.
There were at least some structures threatened by the fire, but it’s unclear whether any have been damaged.
Macumber initially estimated the fires at 40 acres, but Cal Fire officials confirmed on Twitter at 2:52 p.m. that they’ve grown to roughly 10 times that size and are also burning in Alameda County in the vicinity of West Grant Line and Mountain House roads.
