San Mateo Fire Station 25 opening ceremony

Azalea Mitch, San Mateo Public Works director; Police Chief Ed Barberini; City Manager Drew Corbett; Sheila Canzian, San Mateo Parks and Recreation director; Councilmember Diane Papan; Mayor Eric Rodriguez; Deputy Mayor Rick Bonilla; Councilmember Joe Goethals; Councilmember Amourence Lee; and Ray Iverson, San Mateo Consolidated fire chief; at the May 18 grand opening of the new Fire Station 25 at 1455 Shafter St., on the corner of Borel Avenue. The new station is funded in part through Measure C, an increase in the city’s transient occupancy tax approved by voters in 1998 to fund needed seismic upgrades and other safety improvements to San Mateo’s safety facilities. The former Station 25, originally constructed in 1954, at the corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Barneson Avenue was identified as a priority for upgrading.
