LOS ANGELES — After a little nip here and a tuck there, “Mural,” Jackson Pollock’s brilliant, larger-than-life painting, is once again ready for its close-up.
The oil-on-canvas work, measuring more than 8 feet high and nearly 20 feet long, has been under wraps at the J. Paul Getty Museum for more than a year undergoing extensive restoration.
Officials of the Los Angeles museum showed the results Monday. The painting goes on display to the general public Tuesday.
The work represents a key turning point in Pollock’s career. It marks his move away from symbolic, regional forms to the abstract expressionism he would become known for.
The painting, owned by the University of Iowa, will be on display at The J. Paul Getty Museum for three months.
