K-pop might win at the Grammys for the first time
NEW YORK (AP) — K-pop is an inextricable force in global pop culture. It has also long been undercelebrated at institutions like the Grammys. That could change at the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony next month. K-pop artists have earned nominations in three of the big four categories for the first time. Experts say it may be a historic moment for K-pop, but this year's nominees are better described as K-pop-adjacent. Up for awards are Katseye, HUNTR/X’s “Golden” from the “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack and Rosé and Bruno Mars' “APT.” The artists perform mostly in English, and the songs feature universally accessible and beloved pop hooks.
Sarah Jessica Parker gets Golden Globes' Carol Burnett Award and Helen Mirren gets DeMille prize
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Helen Mirren has received the Cecil B. DeMille award for career achievement from the Golden Globes, and Sarah Jessica Parker got the Carol Burnett Award for a life in television. The prizes were presented at a new event called Golden Eve that aired on CBS on Thursday night ahead of Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. Mirren got her DeMille Award from fellow winner and frequent co-star Harrison Ford at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Parker’s husband of nearly 30 years Matthew Broderick presented her with the Burnett Award. The 92-year-old Burnett, who was in the audience, told Parker “welcome to the club.”
David Bowie's childhood home in London is set to open to the public next year
LONDON (AP) — David Bowie’s childhood home could soon become a tourist attraction. The Heritage of London Trust says it plans to restore the 19th-century cottage to its 1960s decor and open it to the public next year. Bowie lived in the house in the south London suburb of Bromley from 1955 to 1967. The tiny bedroom is where he evolved from a suburban schoolboy to a genre-bending musician. The house project is backed by Bowie’s estate. It has received a charity grant and is seeking public donations. The trust said Thursday that it aims to open the house in late 2027 for public visits and creative workshops for children. The news comes a decade after Bowie died on Jan. 10, 2016, at age 69.
‘The Pitt’ is back for another harrowing 15-hour shift. Is it even possible to up the ante?
Can they do it again? After a harrowing debut season that garnered five Emmys, “The Pitt” returns for Season 2 on HBO Max. Star Noah Wyle says the goal this season is not to up the ante in terms of drama. Rather, he says, it's to deepen the exploration of characters and the issues they face. Most of the cast is back, but an expanded ensemble includes a tech-minded new doctor competing with Wyle's old-school Dr. Robby. And there's a lot more medicine for the young doctors — and the actors playing them — to learn. The first episode streams Thursday.
Movie Review: ‘Greenland 2: Migration’ is an unmemorable sequel with a memorably newsy title
Recommended for you
“Greenland 2: Migration” has the good fortune of boasting an extremely newsy title. But this sequel to the 2020 comet-disaster film doesn't say much about Greenland — a toxic wasteland here, which residents are forced to flee for their lives. Gerard Butler is back as the stalwart John Garrity, who got his family to safety in the first film and now must do it again. Director Ric Roman Waugh tries to focus this time on character building and emotion, but none of this is compellingly rendered, writes Associated Press critic Jocelyn Noveck in her review. It opens in theaters Friday.
Sonia De Los Santos cancels Kennedy Center shows, citing unwelcoming climate
NEW YORK (AP) — Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sonia De Los Santos has canceled her upcoming performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington. She was set to perform two concerts for young audiences on Feb. 7, followed by a conversation with the audience. De Los Santos is known for her 2018 Latin Grammy-nominated album “¡Alegría!” She cited her background as a reason for the cancellation and expressed concerns about the current climate at the venue. The Kennedy Center has faced multiple cancellations since President Donald Trump ousted its previous leadership and rebranded it the Trump-Kennedy Center. Other artists, including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bela Fleck, have also withdrawn.
Harvey Weinstein weighs plea on rape charge but insists he 'never assaulted anyone'
NEW YORK (AP) — A judge says Harvey Weinstein is weighing a potential guilty plea to resolve an undecided rape charge and avoid going to trial for a third time in New York. But, amid the plea talk Thursday, the disgraced movie mogul said he knows he was unfaithful and acted wrongly, but he insisted that he "never assaulted anyone.” For now, at least, Weinstein is on course for a retrial as soon as March in the landmark #MeToo-era case. While jurors got stuck on the rape charge at a trial last year, they convicted Weinstein of one separate sexual assault charge and acquitted him of another. He denies all the charges.

The films “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” and “Marty Supreme” are in the running for the top honor. Directors Guild nominees often align with the Academy Awards, where the winner usually triumphs at the Oscars. Oscar nominations are set for January 22. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 7, 2026.
Movie Review: A real-life '70s hostage drama crackles in Gus Van Sant's 'Dead Man's Wire'
It plays a little loose with facts but the righteous rage of “Dog Day Afternoon” is present enough in Gus Van Sant’s “Dead Man’s Wire.” The based-on-a-true-tale hostage thriller is as deeply 1970s as it is contemporary, writes AP Film Writer Jake Coyle in his review. It’s been seven years since Van Sant directed, and one of the prevailing takeaways from his new film is that that’s too long of a break for the filmmaker of “My Own Private Idaho” and “Good Will Hunting.” Working from a script by Austin Kolodney, Van Sant turns “Dead Man’s Wire” into not a period-piece time capsule but a bracingly relevant drama of outrage and inequality
