A cold, wet day turned even colder and wetter for the San Mateo High baseball team Wednesday afternoon, as the Bearcats fell 4-3 to Sequoia in extra innings at the 49th annual South San Francisco Easter Tournament.
San Mateo had beaten Sequoia twice earlier this season, but Mike Garcia's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, driving in Brian Miguel, prevented the three-peat.
The Cherokees started out early with two runs in the first inning, and another in the fourth coming in on a single by Garcia. While San Mateo tallied a single run in the second inning, the Bearcats were generally unable to muster any offense until the sixth inning.
