Burlingame 2, Sequoia 1
Big left-hander Nate Trautwein delivered the longest outing of his two-year varsity career, allowing one unearned run on four hits through six innings of work to earn the win against Sequoia at Washington Park. The junior walked just one while notching a career-high 10 strikeouts to earn the win, improving his record to 3-2. Senior right-hander Mark O’Grady fired a scoreless seventh, striking out two to earn the save for the Panthers (4-2 PAL Bay, 10-6 overall).
Sequoia (3-4, 11-6) scored early with an RBI single from Nolan Fausto in the first. But a leadoff single in the third by Burlingame’s Preet Mallen put the comeback rally in motion. Charlie Cheng followed with a sacrifice bunt, before a Grant Howard single set up runners at the corners. Howard promptly stole second, and O’Grady cashed in with a two-run double to left to swing the Panthers ahead. O’Grady finished 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
Burlingame continues to win despite batting just .248 as a team. Manager Shawn Scott’s Panthers now boast a 4-0 record in one-run games.
Menlo School 9, Carlmont 4
With the game tied 3-all in the seventh, Menlo (5-3 PAL Bay, 12-7 overall) erupted for six runs in its final at-bat to win it at Carlmont (3-4, 8-11). Fletcher Cahill’s RBI double gave the Knights the lead, and the carousel continued for William Larson to cap the rally with a two-run single. Sophomore Zach Roeder went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Menlo, while senior Jack Freehill added three hits with a double. Senior Ryan Weiss paced the Scots, going 3 for 4 with a double.
Sacred Heart Prep 5, Aragon 2
With the game tied 2-all in the eighth, the Gators (7-1 PAL Ocean, 15-4 overall) rallied in extras to win it at Aragon (4-4, 12-7). With the bases loaded and two out, junior Travis Barton drew a four-pitch walk to force home Colin Beim with the go-ahead run. Nico Pollioni was then hit by a pitch, and Chase Affrunti singled home the final run. Junior reliever Lucca Larson earned the win with two scoreless innings of work, upping his record to 3-0. SHP junior Drew Parker was 4 for 4 with a run scored. Senior Xavier Ruiz paced Aragon with two hits.
With the win, SHP remains tied for first place in the PAL Ocean Division with San Mateo, both with a comfortable two-game lead over third-place Terra Nova.
San Mateo 5, Woodside 1
Junior right-hander Jesus Olivas went the distance for his third consecutive complete-game victory, as the Bearcats (7-1 PAL Ocean, 14-5 overall) remain tied for first place in the PAL Ocean Division with a home win over Woodside (4-4, 10-7). Olivas scattered seven hits, allowing one run and walking one, while recording a career-high 11 strike outs. Olivas’ only blemish on the day was in the fourth, with the Bearcats leading 3-0, when junior John Tinson connected for a solo home run to left. San Mateo junior Julio Calderon was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while senior Tyce Copus added two hits. Tinson and sophomore Colby Fernandez notched two hits apiece for the Wildcats.
Terra Nova 13, Mills 2
Have a day, Joey Donati! Terra Nova’s catcher shortened the game by one inning with a two-run home run in the sixth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule for the Tigers (5-3 PAL Ocean, 11-8 overall), capping a 5-for-5 day at Mills (0-8, 4-12). Donati finished a double shy of the cycle, clubbing two home runs, including a two-run shot to left in the second to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead. He added a two-run triple in the fifth, and totaled a seven RBIs and four runs scored, both career-highs for the third-year varsity catcher. Donati’s performance overshadowed junior shortstop Brody Finale, who also enjoyed a big day, going 4 for 5 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored in support of starting pitcher Aiden James’ fourth win of the year.
Half Moon Bay 4, South City 1
Senior left-hander Kai Kung went the distance for the Cougars (4-3 PAL Ocean, 8-8 overall), allowing one unearned run on six hits, to secure the home win against South City (0-7, 6-13). Kung walked two while striking out eight, and got all the runs he’s need in the early going, with one in the first and two more in the second, capped by an RBI triple from Riley Jackson and an RBI knock by Ian Ehrhardt. The Warriors scored in the fifth on an RBI double from Josh Nabung, but Kung bounced back to retire seven of the last eight batters he faced.
El Camino 6, Priory 1

Senior right-hander Adrian Iniguez went the distance to keep the Colts (9-0 PAL Lake, 14-4 overall) unbeaten in PAL Lake Division play at Priory (5-4, 10-4). Iniguez allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out five to earn the win, improving his record to 4-0 with a 2.13 ERA. El Camino totaled just four hits, but Iniguez had half of them, going 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while senior Michael McCauley added two hits and two RBIs.
Crystal 9, Westmoor 6
Starting pitcher Tyler Hanebrink went the distance while Crystal (2-6 PAL Lake, 2-9-1 overall) used a seven-run third inning to take the game in hand at Westmoor (2-6, 5-7). Hanebrink allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits, a walk and two hit batsmen, while notching a career-high 12 strikeouts. Connor Uchida paced the Gryphons with two hits, while Hanebrink and Charlie Dyner had one hit and two RBIs apiece. Cristian Fausto tabbed a triple and two RBIs for Westmoor, and John Viray added a single and two RBIs.
Harker 13, Jefferson 3
Harker-San Jose (7-1 PAL Lake, 11-7 overall) needed just five innings to earn the win at home against the Grizzlies (0-8, 1-14). Jefferson jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Harker responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame, and walked off via mercy-rule with a six-run fifth. Mason Brooks totaled two hits with a double and two RBIs for Jeff, while Eaton Cao added two hits with an RBI.
Softball
Hillsdale 3, Woodside 0
Freshman hurler Parker Jensen fired a four-hit shutout to lead Hillsdale (6-1 PAL Bay, 12-7 overall) to a home win over Woodside (3-6, 11-7). The Lady Knights scored three runs in the first inning on a string of RBI singles from Maddie Pena, Mia DeMartini and Sophia Shelton, and Jensen did the rest. The freshman walked four a struck out four to earn her first regulation seven-inning CG victory, improving her record to 3-2.
Aragon 14, Carlmont 0
Junior shortstop Taylor Workman recorded her second four-hit day in the last four games as Aragon (5-2 PAL Bay, 12-8 overall) rolled to a five-inning mercy-rule win at Carlmont (0-7, 3-16-1). Workman improved her season average to .667, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while senior Elizabeth Magness added two hits and three RBIs, and freshman Riley Wideman had two hits and two RBIs. Wideman and sophomore Makayla Hafoka did the rest in the circle, combining to blank the Lady Scots. Wideman fired three innings to earn the win, allowing two hits and striking out two, to improve her record to 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA. Hafoka closed it out with two scoreless innings.
Menlo-Atherton 10, Burlingame 6
With the game deadlocked 3-all in the fifth, Menlo-Atherton ( ) scored twice and added five more in the fifth to win it in Burlingame ( ). Junior Juliana Pandolfo paced the Bears with three hits and three RBIs, while senior Carey Maletis added two RBIs. Burlingame outhit M-A 11-7, with two-hit performances by Maddy Koo, Kiley Lyons, Olivia Delucchi and Brooke Arce.
Terra Nova 6, South City 2
Tied 2-all in the fifth, Terra Nova (1-2 PAL Ocean, 6-6 overall) took the lead on a two-run double by Olivia Tomasello to storm to the home win over South City (3-1, 9-8). Starting pitcher Bonnie Barrango did the rest, allowing two runs on three hits to go the distance, evening her record at 3-3. Barrango walked three but recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts. She added two hits with a triple and and RBI at the plate. Sophomore Phoebe Oseguera went 2 for 3 with a solo home run for the Warriors.
Design Tech 7, El Camino 6
Tied 5-5 in the fifth, the Dragons (7-3) jumped ahead on a solo home run by freshman Kendall Hom to win in non-league play against El Camino (2-9) at the Belmont Sports Complex. Design Tech added a critical insurance run in the inning on an RBI groundout by junior Eve Casile, as the Lady Colts rallied for a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Jenna Bollentini. Freshman pitcher Adelaide Chuang closed it out, though, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits with a career-high 12 strikeouts.
Valley Christian 10, Capuchino 3
Capuchino (6-9) scored three times in the first inning, but Valley Christian (14-4) scored two in the third, two more in the fourth, and kept adding on to secure the non-league win in San Bruno. Valley junior Sia Marsh fell a single shy of the cycle, going 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and home run, while sophomore Shyla Paredes slugged two home runs for the Warriors. Junior catcher Brianna Lopiccolo paced Cap with two doubles and an RBI, while junior Setaita Mau added two hits with an RBI.
