SATURDAY
SHP 10, Washington 0
Junior left-hander Kyle Sweeney fired four hitless innings, and the Gators (5-3) turned in an abbreviated one-hit gem in a five-inning mercy-rule win at home against Washington-SF. Sweeney allowed one walk and hit one batter while striking out eight, and threw an efficient 56 pitches to earn the win. His record improves to 2-0. Junior reliever Lucca Larson closed it out in the fifth, with Washington senior Malcolm Choy breaking up the no-hitter with a triple. Larson preserved the shutout while striking out two.
The Gators, led by junior Isaac Aviles, totaled 12 hits on the day. Aviles was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Junior Drew Parker added two hits with an RBI, and senior Nico Pollioni and junior JP Durrett each tabbed a double and two RBIs. The Gators are now batting .303 on the year through eight games.
SHP has now won three straight. The game was the first in a week for Washington (3-4), after the Eagles earned two league wins via forfeit Wednesday and Thursday.
Riordan 3, South City 2
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh, South City swung ahead with a run in the top of the inning, but Riordan (4-3) walked it off with a two-run rally in the bottom of the frame. Senior Logan Tuman tied it with a solo home run, and junior Dante Curmi won it with a sacrifice fly to hand the Warriors (4-2) their second loss of the year.
Cook was 2 for 2 with a solo home run in the third. South City junior Josh Nabung went 2 for 3 with a double in his second straight multi-hit game, while senior Gio Bernal had a single and an RBI.
Willow Glen 6, Half Moon Bay 5
Willow Glen (6-1-1) rallied for five runs in the top of the first and led the rest of the way to win its fifth straight in non-league action at Half Moon Bay (3-3). Junior starting pitcher Connor Hoover earned the win, allowing two hits over four shutout innings of work. The Cougars got to the Rams’ bullpen for two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth, but senior Finne Dionne recorded two scoreless innings of work to earn the save.
Northgate 19, San Mateo 2
Northgate-Walnut Creek (5-0) has now won five straight, and hung its single best run total of the season at home against San Mateo (4-3). The Broncos totaled 14 hits, and benefitted from 10 walks and four hit batsmen by San Mateo pitchers. Junior Tyler Eby homered for Northgate, and shared the game-high of three RBIs with seniors Luke Dress and Andres Zaragoza Roberts. Tyce Copus and Hudson Brandt led the Bearcats with two hits apiece, while Christian Louie and Daniel Soler each picked up RBIs.
Mitty 10, Carlmont 4
Carlmont closed the gap on a 6-0 deficit with a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth, but Mitty (7-1) drummed up four more runs in the top of the sixth to win it in Belmont.
The Scots (2-5) played beanball as their pitchers combined to hit nine Mitty batters in the game. Noah Fishman, Felix Chang and Austin Mak each got hit twice, and scored two runs apiece, while junior Elijah Kroenung had two hits with a double and four RBIs, and Derek Allen totaled two hits with a double and three RBIs for the Monarchs. Carlmont junior Giancarlo Enferadi had two hits with an RBI, and juniro Nate Werbinski added two hits.
FRIDAY
St. Francis 19, Capuchino 0
St. Francis sophomore Landon King broke out of his early-season funk in a big way, as St. Francis (6-1) rolled through San Bruno to win it via five-inning mercy rule. The San Mateo native entered play batting .143 (2 for 14) on the year, but went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored.
The Mustangs (6-1) had a six-game win streak halted after outscoring six previous opponents 64-4. Cap managed just four hits against two Lancers pitchers. Junior right-hander Kyle McMillan earned the win, allowing two hits through four innings while striking out eight. Senior left-hander Andrew Madrigal allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless fifth. Seniors Tanner Wall and Gino Cappellazzo each homered for the Lancers. Cap sophomore Jaxon Lazzari went 1 for 2 and is now 8 for 13 on the year while slashing .615/.688/.923.

Menlo School 4, Piedmont Hills 2
Sophomore right-hander Reid Plamondon notched a career-high 12 strikeouts through 6 1/3 innings to earn the win as the Knights (5-3) won their fourth straight at home against Piedmont Hills (2-3-2). Plamondon allowed one run (none earned) on three hits, while sophomore Liam Widner allowed one run on three hits but recorded the final two outs to close it. Senior Jackson Flanagan and sophomore Fletcher Cahill paced the Knights with two hits and one RBI apiece.
Design Tech 4, The Bay School 1
The Dragons (1-3-1) broke out for four runs in the bottom of the first and rode them to their first win of the year over The Bay School (3-1) at the Belmont Sports Complex. Junior right-hander Branden Hom earned the win win a masterful six shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks while notching a career-high 12 strike outs. Junior right-hander Reilly Sutton soldiered through the seventh to close it out, allowing one run (none earned) on one hit and two walks, while striking out three. Junior Aidan Tom went 3 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for Design Tech, while sophomore Josiah Hernandez added two hits with an RBI.
St. Ignatius 4, Carlmont 3
The San Mateo kids north of the county border enjoyed a big day to lead St. Ignatius-SF (5-1) to the win over Carlmont at Fairmont Field. Senior Archer Horn led the way for the Wildcats, going 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while AJ Wineinger totaled two hits with a double and two RBIs, and added two scoreless innings of relief on the mound. Carlmont starting pitcher Jabob Shinseki took the complete-game loss, allowing four runs on eight hits through six innings of work. Sophomore Lucas Chan paced the Scots (2-4) with two hits.
THURSDAY
El Camino 11, Jefferson 1
Junior starting pitcher Hunter Tamayo recorded a shortened non-hitter as the Colts (1-0 PAL Lake, 4-2 overall) rolled in their PAL Lake Division opener, walking off with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth for the abbreviated mercy-rule victory. The win marks El Camino’s fourth straight. Tamayo allowed one run and two walks, but no hits while striking out seven. The junior also enjoyed a big day at the plate, logging two doubles and three RBIs. Gabe Meriales paced the Colts with a 3-for-3 day, with a double and three RBIs.
South City 33, Summit Shasta 2
The Warriors (4-1) erupted for an 18-run third inning and scored crooked numbers in each of their four at-bats in a five-winning mercy-rule win at home over Summit Shasta (1-3). Senior Emilio Oseguera and junior Diego Carranza each recorded five-hit days. Carranza went 5 for 6 with a double, a triple and seven RBIs, Oseguera was 5 for 5 with three doubles and five RBIs, and junior Vince Bernal added three doubles with five RBIs. Jalen Mingao logged two hits with a triple for the Black Bears, and Aaron Mendoza had two hits with an RBI.
Priory 13, Crystal 2
Sophomore Kai Aalfs went 2 for 4 with a double and a career-high four RBIs to lead Priory (2-1 PAL Lake, 4-1 overall) to the win at home over Crystal (0-1, 0-3-1) in PAL Lake Division play. The Panthers totaled 11 hits, with senior Harrison Kim going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while senior Michael Hildebrandt added two hits with an RBI. Sophomore starting pitcher Tyler Demkin worked three scoreless innings to earn his first win of the year. Hildebrandt fired three hitless innings of relief to earn the regulation save.
San Mateo 9, Hayward 3
Trailing 3-2, the Bearcats (4-3) tied it the fourth and exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth to claim the win at Hayward (4-3). Tyce Copus went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Michael Lackey added a double with an RBI for San Mateo. Copus took a no-decision through three innings of work as the starting pitcher, and sophomore Wilson Morales fired four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out five. Morales’ record improves to 3-0 through four appearances on the year.
Westmoor 22, SF Waldorf 7
Sophomore Nathan Ho enjoyed a big day both sides of the ball for the Rams (2-1). On the mound, he worked two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four, to earn the win in the shortened mercy-rule game over San Francisco Waldorf (1-1) in Daly City. At the plate, Ho went 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, as the Rams scored nine runs in the first and nine more in the second. Sophomore Cristian Fausto added a home run and three RBIs for Westmoor, senior Noel Acebedo had two hits with a double and four RBIs, and sophomore Jeremy Zhang totaled three hits with a double, a triple, an RBI and four runs scored.
