In back-to-back seasons, Menlo girls’ water polo earned a trip to its own Amanda MacDonald Invitational. The Knights won three matches in a row Friday and Saturday before falling to defending tournament champion Acalanes 15-9 in the final.
Menlo senior Kenya Cassidy, who had eight goals in a win over Harker, had a hat trick against the Dons while junior Sofia Flierl and freshman Sabina Sutaria added two goals apiece against Acalanes.
The Knights trailed 3-2 before the Dons pulled away in the second quarter 9-2.
Menlo defeated St. Ignatius 11-6 in the semifinals and beat Harker 17-11 and Woodside 14-5 in pool play.
The annual water polo tournament is dedicated to the memory of Amanda K. MacDonald ’93, a former Menlo student who was captain of the water polo and swim teams.
