The Menlo-Atherton boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won both team events at the Peninsula Athletic League’s Race #2 at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont Wednesday.
The Bears’ boys’ team absolutely dominated, taking the top four spots and seven of the top 15 spots as they posted a team score of 19 point. Mills was in second place with 76 points.
M-A’s Grant Bennitt, Cason Mitchell and Aidan Sharp finished 1-2-3 and were all given the same time of 15:53 over the 2.95-mile course.
It was a new personal record for Bennitt.
Teammate Benjamin Salceda was fourth two seconds back with a 15:55. Brady Phan was ninth with a time of 16:28, Zachary Jones was 11th (16:30) and Kentaro Wuertele was 12th (16:32).
Mills’ David Eberspacher and Patrick Jahutka broke up the Bears’ party at the top of the list, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Eberspacher finished in a time of 16:03 and Jahutka came in with a 16:49.
El Camino’s Dylan Bullentini finished seventh in a time of 16:20; Hillsdale’s Adam Woo was eighth in a time of 16:22, while Justin Dubbs of Carlmont rounded out the top 10 with a time of 16:30.
While the M-A girls weren’t quite as dominant, the Bears scored 36 points, holding off second-place Carlmont, which finished with 43, they still captured the individual win with Caroline Pflaum finishing first in a time of 18:13.
But like their male counterparts, the Lady Bears also place seven runners in the top 15. Matilda Smart (19:45) and Paige McGaraghan (19:49) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Louisa Pflaum (20:12) finished 11th for the Bears, Alli Brottem (20:21) was 13th, Mia Sanchez (20:24) was 14th and Laura Maravilla (20:32) was 15th.
Carlmont runners Daniela Cuadros and Katelyn Elliott finished second and third with times of 18:20 and 18:49, respectively. Isabella Schuett’s time of 19:51 gave the Scots a third runner in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish.
Mills’ Chloe Amayun finished fourth in a time of 19:42, San Mateo’s Andrea Correa was seventh with a time of 19:50 and Dylan Lee of Aragon rounded out the top 10 with a 10th-place finish in a time of 20:02.
