Avery Lee, Menlo girls’ basketball. The sophomore point guard scored 46 points in three games as she helped lead the Knights to the finals of the Marin Catholic tournament. Lee scored 17 in a 66-51 loss to St. Ignatius.
Bralyn Lux, The King’s Academy football. The senior running back was front and center in TKA’s first-ever CCS championship victory Saturday against Carmel. With the Knights claiming the Division V title behind second-year coach Pete Lavorato, Lux was an absolute workhorse, taking 30 carries for a remarkable 331 yards, both marking new career highs. The standout performance sees Lux close his season with 1,811 rushing yards on the season, ranking second in the CCS among teams reporting statistics to MaxPreps.com, and moving him past Carlmont senior Julian Morin for the top rusher from the Peninsula Athletic League.
Daniela Corona, Half Moon Bay girls’ wrestling. The Lady Cougars took second-place in hosting the HMB Girls’ Peninsula Wrestling Tournament Friday, with Corona leading the charge. The senior earned the individual championship in the 150-pound division, executing three straight pins to sweep through the bracket.
Ryan Miles-Ferguson, San Mateo boys’ basketball. The senior combo guard scored 22 points during the Bearcats’ 57-51 loss to South City.
Devon Malashus, Burlingame football. The junior running back accounted for two touchdowns — one passing and one receiving — and also delivered a key block on a third in the Panthers’ 38-0 win over Carlmont in the CCS Division IV championship game. He hauled in a 29-yard scoring pass from twin brother and Burlingame quarterback Jordan Malashus. His block sprung Lucas Meredith for a 15-yard score on the Panthers second touchdown and he threw a 35-yard strike to Chase Funkhouser on a double pass.
Burlingame defense, Burlingame football. The entire defensive unit capped a CCS championship run with its best performance of the playoffs. It limited Carlmont to 79 yards of offense in a 38-0 Division IV win. In three playoff games, the Panthers allowed a total 328 yards and 19 points.
Emilia Dougherty, Notre Dame-Belmont girls’ basketball. The senior scorer helped lead the Tigers to the finals of the Lick Wilmerding tournament. She scored 17 points in NDB’s 65-43 loss to the host teams. Dougherty and Alex Gatt earned all-tournament honors.

Jayla Stokesberry, Aragon girls’ soccer. The Lady Dons opened the season with two straight wins last week, and in fairly spectacular fashion. In last Wednesday’s season opener, Aragon reveled in a 12-1 win over Mills, which featured a quiet performance by Stokesberry. The senior midfielder shined Friday against San Mateo, though, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win.
Nelson Rodriguez, South City boys’ soccer. The Warriors are off to a 3-0 start, outscoring opponents by a cumulative 9-3 in that stretch. Eight different South City players have scored so far, including Rodriguez, as the senior converted in the season opener against Lowell, then tallied three assists through wins over Harker and rival El Camino.
Ben Ledwith, Carlmont boys’ basketball. The Scots opened the 2018-19 season with a 68-54 win at Palo Alto, a finalist in the Northern California Division I tournament last season. Ledwith recorded his second career double-double, as the 6-8 senior totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Angie Bautista, Evelyn Calhoon, Abby Ericson and Lauren McDonnell, Menlo-Atherton girls’ wrestling. M-A brought home four individual titles from the Lady Royals Tournament Saturday at Overfelt High School. The Bears took second-place as a team, with individual titles earned by Bautista (4-0 record with three pins); Calhoon (4-0, two pins and one technical fall); Ericson (3-0, two pins); and McDonnell (3-0, two pins).
Daniel Heimuli, Menlo-Atherton football. The senior linebacker was a force in M-A’s CCS Open Division I championship victory Friday night over Wilcox. The Bears got off to a miserable start, yielding 21 straight points through the opening 13 minutes, then facing a 28-14 deficit at halftime. Marching to a staggering comeback in the second half, however, the M-A defense pitched a shutout over the final 24 minutes, with Heimuli turning in one of the finest performances you’ll ever see from a high school linebacker, racking up 11 total tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Megan Norris, Sacred Heart Prep girls’ basketball. The sophomore big got her first career start in the semifinals of the Kelly Shea-Gallo Tournament against Sequoia last Thursday at Mills. She totaled eight points, with five of them coming in the last two minutes — a pair of free throws to give the Gators their first lead of the game, and a clutch 3-pointer to follow to put the 32-26 win on ice.
