Half Moon Bay 6, Foster City 3
The small-ball approach of Wyatt Gunning paid off, as Half Moon Bay scored five runs over the first two innings in an elimination game against Foster City at Middlefield Ballpark.
Gunning bunted home Tristan Chaney amid a four-run second inning. He gave a command performance in the sixth with an RBI bunt single to drive home Dominic Seaton. Gunning was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Chaney added two hits, and Mackey Connell tabbed an RBI for the boys from the Coastside.
Trailing 5-0, Foster City made it interesting with a three-run rally in the fourth. The HMB starting pitcher Seaton worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings, but Foster City broke through against the bullpen in the fourth. Leo Kanamaru doubled home Michael Amendson for Foster City’s first run, and Luke Davies and Kanamaru scored on a wild pitch and an error to close the deficit to 5-3.
HMB reliever Brayden Davis closed it out, firing a perfect inning with one strikeout in the sixth.
Kanamaru abd Ari Joshi recorded two hits apiece for Foster City.
HMB advances through the elimination bracket to face Menlo-Atherton, Friday, at 6:30 p.m.
Foster City posted a 1-2 record in the tournament. Their roster includes Amundson, Davies, Joshi, Kanamaru, Keval Bhuta, Joshua Colvin, Jayden De Guzman, Izac Hexter, Ryan Lee, Tyler Ngai, Shin Onoe, Zachary Thorpe and Case Wan.

Redwood City 4, Palo Alto 2
Redwood City starting pitcher Dominic Sigala worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, and his team never trailed in an elimination game against Palo Alto at Middlefield Ballpark.
Sigala walked three and struck out seven to front the pitching staff. Reliever Tanner Jarolimek entered with one out in the sixth, and closed it out with two-thirds of an inning.
Jarolimek and Sigala paced the RWC offense with two hits apiece.
RWC got on the board with two runs in the first. Lucas Fairbairn doubled home Jarolimek with the game’s first run, and Wyatt Tetley followed with an RBI single to score Sigala. Palo Alto got on the board in the second on a bases loaded walk to Sage Willis to force home Timothy Choi. RWC responded with two more runs in the third, with Jarolimek scoring on a passed ball, and Jack Torres singling home Fairbairn to make it 4-1.
Palo Alto got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Logan Lai singled to center to bring home Connor Blair.
With the win, RWC advances through the elimination bracket to face Hillsborough, Friday, at 4 p.m.
Palo Alto posted a 1-2 record in the tournament. Their roster includes Blair, Choi, Lai, Willis, Baadj Ahluwalia, Matt Chen, Paul Cordova IV, Nike Harwell, Hobbs Hernandez, William Kumagai, Dylan LeMere, Guy Rudd and Zachary Silverman.
