San Carlos 9, Redwood City 3
Starting pitcher Trevor Demkin fired three no-hit innings, and four San Carlos pitchers held Redwood City to two hits in the elimination bracket semifinals of the District 52 All-Stars 14s at Red Morton Park in Redwood City.
San Carlos now advances to play Pacifica in the championship round, beginning Thursday.
Demkin faced one over the minimum through three innings, issuing one walk while striking out five. Cal Massey and Julian Levenson spanned the middle innings, combining for three frames, and Mason Stevick worked a perfect seventh to close it out. San Carlos is now 3-1 in the tournament, its only loss coming in Sunday’s second round 10-3 to Pacifica.
San Carlos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Massey capped the rally with an RBI single to drive home Levenson. San Carlos went on to score in five of the seven innings. Logan Deitrich led the way with a 3-for-3 night, while Demkin tallied two hits with an RBI and two stolen bases. San Carlos led 7-0 in the fifth before RWC scored once in the bottom of the inning and twice more in the sixth. San Carlos added two more insurance runs in the seventh.
Marko Axtman and Colby Fernandez accounted for Redwood City’s two hits, and Xavier Palafox tabbed an RBI in the sixth by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The championship round at Red Morton Park’s McGarvey Field opens Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Pacifica need be beaten twice for San Carlos to win the title, while Pacifica need win just once by virtue of advancing through the winners’ bracket. An if-necessary game is tentatively scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m.
