Cam Grant, Aragon baseball. The senior had a big week at the plate in Aragon’s two-game sweep of El Camino, going 5 for 9 through the two wins, including a 3-for-5 performance with a double, a home run and five RBIs in last Thursday’s 19-1 blowout. Grant has now hit safely in 13 straight games and is pacing the Dons in each of the triple-crown categories with a .455 average, two homers (tied with junior Sterling Miller for the team lead) and 12 RBIs.
Krissy Smoot, Notre Dame-Belmont track and field. The senior continued to improve on her CCS-best discus distance Saturday at the Serra Top 7 meet. For the third straight week, Smoot recorded a personal record in the event with a throw of 142 feet, 2 inches, topping her previous best by over a foot. She took first place in the event and also took third in the shot put with a distance of 40-11, finishing just shy of the second-place throw of 41 feet even by Mills junior Nane Ikahihifo.
Raeka Lin, South City badminton. Now a senior, one of the best players in the Central Coast Section nearly pitched a shutout as she set the tone in the Warriors’ 9-4 win over San Mateo. Lin, who teamed with her sister Jakin Lin to win the 2016 CCS girls' doubles title, dropped only three points in her 21-1, 21-2 victory at No. 1 girls’ singles.
Luke Philpott, Alma Heights Christian baseball. The senior’s week got off to a good start when he earned the pitching victory in a 7-3 win over Kehillah Jewish in his first mound appearance of the year. It was his performance with the bat in the second game of a two-game series with Kehillah that drew the spotlight though, as Philpott fell a double shy of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run and a career-high six RBIs.
Jason Alba and Jaxon Skidmore, Hillsdale baseball. The Knights became the first team in PAL Bay Division play this season to take down first-place Sacred Heart Prep. And they did so in style, celebrating a 1-0 walk-off victory in the 10th inning. Alba and Skidmore combined on an absolute gem of a one-hitter, with Alba going seven one-hit innings before Skidmore emerged to earn the win with three no-hit innings of relief.
Mika Chong, Hillsdale softball. The freshman cleanup hitter is proving being the team's main run producer is not too big for her. In wins over San Mateo and Notre Dame-Belmont, Chong combined to go 4 for 7 with four RBIs.
