DUBLIN (AP) — Coach Andy Farrell committed to Ireland for another four years on Friday through the 2031 Rugby World Cup in the United States.
Farrell was originally signed to the end of the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
The extended deal will give him 11 years in charge of Ireland and 15 years in the setup.
“What excites me most is the increasing strength and investment in pathways and the quality of talent coming through,” he said. “There is a real confidence in the system that has been built across the provinces and age-grade programmes, and I believe with sustained effort that the best is yet to come.”
Farrell joined Ireland in 2016 as the defense coach and took over when Joe Schmidt stepped down after the 2019 World Cup.
Under Farrell, Ireland has won the Six Nations twice, one Grand Slam, and four Triple Crowns. Ireland has been first or second every year since 2022.
At the 2023 World Cup in France, Ireland bowed out in the quarterfinals for the eighth time in 10 tournaments. It has never reached the semifinals.
Farrell coached the British and Irish Lions in Australia last year to a 2-1 series win.
The 51-year-old is a rugby league great who represented England in league and union.
