College of San Mateo leadoff hitter Jack McCarthy benefitted from the Bulldogs moving up their scheduled Tuesday’s home game against De Anza by joining an elite fraternity.
A freshman outfielder out of San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano, McCarthy enjoyed a 6-for-6 performance at the plate — logging a double, a home run and four singles — in CSM’s 8-1 victory.
The Bulldogs banged out 17 hits in support of starting pitcher Sean Prozell, who allowed one run on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win, improving his record to 3-1.
Second baseman Everett Lau, center fielder Chris Papapietro and catcher Keolu Ramos totaled three hits apiece.
McCarthy — who scored two runs and had three RBIs — has been on a red-hot tear over the past week. Over the Bulldogs’ past four games, he is 15 for 20 and is currently batting .444 on the season, ranking ninth among California Community College players.
With the win, CSM (3-1 Coast Golden Gate, 13-7 overall) moves to within a half game of first-place Mission.
