The top-seeded Aragon football team will take on fourth-seeded Palo Alto in a Division III semifinal game Friday afternoon.
The Central Coast Section powers-that-be are at it again.
The top-seeded Aragon football team will take on fourth-seeded Palo Alto in a Division III semifinal game Friday afternoon.
The two schools, that are separated by, maybe, 20 miles, will travel to Santa Clara High School for a 1 p.m. game.
Does this make any sense? Is there no facility between San Mateo and Palo Alto that can host this game? If just makes no sense for teams and their fans that are so close to each other have to pack up and journey to the South Bay for what is essentially a Peninsula football game.
In the past, it makes sense to have the game in a centrally located venue as many times games feature teams from the Peninsula versus teams from as far away as Salinas. Two years ago, the Dons took on Gilroy at Santa Clara.
In this case, however, it would behoove CCS to keep the game closer to home. It's hard enough to get people to attend these games and a game played anywhere on the Peninsula would guarantee better attendance.
Woodside would be a good alternative. A brand new synthetic turf, adequate seating and centrally located for the two schools.
