Editor,

Just like with many working parents, we are placing two lenses on our Measure T vote. We care about what we are leaving for our children and how we use what little space and resources we have to build a sustainable future. As well, from a business perspective, it’s important for me to see that we are maximizing the benefit of our decisions and investments for our community.

Sorry, Ms. Brown, but Measure T is a flawed bait and switch measure and I’d recommend folks vote NO on T. If folks have voter remorse, they can change their vote in the future as I expect there will be future Measure T “clones” in the near and far future. Meanwhile, I’d recommend folks start voting out the folks who decided to put Measure T on the ballot. BTW, what makes you think people of all income levels can buy here? If they could have, they would have. Have you seen the costs to develop? Vote NO on T.

Sorry, Terry, Measure T is the fix for measure why, which fails to allow for necessary growth so that the students who graduate from our high schools or come home from college can actually find an affordable place to live somewhere near the rest of their family and maybe have a life similar to that you are enjoying now. I realize that you think you’re the gatekeeper, but the fact is you only own whatever you own and private property owners have a right to seek to make higher and better use of their property especially when there is a need for what they are proposing to do. Therein lies the key, the huge need for housing, which is evident by the very high cost of housing. The high cost is caused by limited supply. You can claim things are flawed and bait and switch, blah blah blah, the truth is that the facts don’t lie. I know you don’t want this truth out there, but Measure T only rezones a small part of San Mateo along transit, and at shopping centers, as well as downtown, where it would make sense to locate more people and amenities to serve the people. Yes I know, that’s another inconvenient fact.

Sorry, Rick, you can claim Measure T is the fix for this and the fix for that and blah, blah, blah but the truth is that Measure T is a flawed bait and switch measure. Measure T can rezone whatever they want, wherever they want, because whatever protections were afforded under Measure Y is null and void.

Measure T repeals Measure Y. Yes, I know, that’s an inconvenient fact that folks for Measure T don’t want out there. Vote NO on T because it is a flawed measure. If you have voter remorse then just wait because it’s highly likely you’ll see a Measure T “clone” in the near future. Let’s hope the clone isn’t slapped together to get it on the ballot as quickly as possible.
