Ana Mata’s article about San Carlos water rates brought to mind San Mateo has the same rates, units 1-6 pay $3.45 per unit, 7-9 pay $13.73 per unit, 10-13 pay $17.16 per unit and above 13 pay $23.75 per unit. Whereas Atherton, which is served by the same private water company (Cal Water), doesn’t reach the highest rate tier till 36 units and at a lower price of $17.49 per unit. How does Cal Water justifies the rate differences?
Shouldn’t a group like the CPUC be looking into this rate discrepancy? Oh wait awhile, they approved the rate change.
How about if the governor looks into the matter. Don’t think so, he selects the members of the CPUC. Somebody has to put “PUBLIC” back into the California PUBLIC Utilities Commission. It’s been too long that the CPUC has favored the utilities over the public. How about the members of the CPUC have to be approved by the voters.
